Commission Jewellery

Jewellery is very personal and every commission story is different. I love creating those one-of-a-kind pieces often with special stories and special meaning. It is also a chance to get something fitted especially for you - that necklace in the perfect length, super comfortable ring shaped exactly to your finger - earrings that hit your jawline just right.

Here is a quick guide to some of the questions I get asked most often.

The Process

You can be as involved in the design as you like or have time for. We start with an initial chat about ideas and the metals, colours and style you like - this can be in person, over email or phone. From there I'll develop a number of initial sketches to narrow down the designs. If it is beneficial I will make a card, wax or silver model to check scale and proportions before moving on to the final making.

Time

As a guide usually allow 4-6 weeks. Time frames vary hugely depending on the piece, sourcing materials and the hand crafting processes used.  The time frame also needs to allow for bigger or pricier pieces to be sent away to be hallmarked by the Assay Office.

Hallmarking

All precious metal items over a certain weight sold in the UK must be hallmarked by the Assay Office.  My Maker's Mark is held by the London Assay Office and so any Silver item weighing over 7g and any gold item above 1g will be hallmarked with that as well as the 'Lion Head' mark and the metal details.

Diamonds & Gold

Any diamonds used in my jewellery are conflict free and all stones and metals are ethically sourced by the UK's most reliable stockists.

Cost

Understandably, this is a key question. It is no fun getting excited and spending time and effort on something which then turns out to be out of reach. The weight of precious metals and size of stones makes a huge difference as do the processes involved. Designs can be created to suit any budget and having a cost in mind helps me tailor the design to what is achievable.

Customise Jewellery

If you see anything you like, but want to have it customised, get in touch to discuss combining a favourite colour stone or precious metal to make a piece that is just right for you.
